How Dr. Johnson Can Help

When a dental crisis strikes, finding immediate care is essential. Dr. Johnson understands the urgency and discomfort you might be feeling.

Do you have?

  • A throbbing toothache that won’t subside
  • A chipped, cracked, or broken tooth that’s causing discomfort
  • A completely knocked-out tooth
  • A lost crown or filling that’s left your tooth exposed and sensitive
  • Swelling, intense pain, or even pus, indicative of an infection
  • Persistently or excessively bleeding gums

If you find yourself in any of these situations, you’re likely experiencing a dental emergency. Dr. Johnson and our team are here to provide the urgent care you need.

What to Do During Your Dental Emergency

Knowing what to do during a dental emergency can make a big difference in how we’re able to save your smile. Here are some ways you can mitigate your situation before reaching our office:

  • If your tooth has been knocked out, gently pick up the tooth by the top (the part you normally see). If you feel comfortable, you can carefully place it back into its socket. If that’s not possible, place your tooth in a cup of milk and bring it with you to your appointment.
  • When a severe toothache strikes, you can start by rinsing your mouth with warm water to clean the area. Then, use dental floss around the aching tooth to dislodge any food that might be causing your discomfort.
  • For a chipped or broken tooth, rinse your mouth with warm water to clean it. If there’s any bleeding, gently apply a clean piece of gauze and hold it there for about 10 minutes. You can also help reduce swelling by using a cold compress on the outside of your cheek.

If you are experiencing a different emergency, it’s best to visit our practice as soon as possible for Dr. Johnson to assess your condition and give you the care you need.

How to Manage Your Dental Pain

We understand that dental emergencies often come with significant pain and discomfort. Before your emergency appointment, you can try these tips to help manage the pain:

  • Over-the-counter pain medications can often help reduce pain and inflammation. Though, be mindful to follow dosage instructions.
  • Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek near the affected area for 15-20 minute intervals to help reduce swelling.
  • Rinsing with a warm saltwater solution can help clean the area and reduce inflammation.
